Great news to share!
Last night, several Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS) staff attended the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Business Achievement Awards, an annual award show recognizing the valuable contributions businesses and individuals who have made or are still making contributions which enhance Sault Ste. Marie’s business community.
Our CEO Justin Marchand was nominated for the Indigenous Professional of the Year Award. This award is for a person who has made an impact in the Indigenous, Metis and Sault Ste. Marie communities and in so doing so, serves as an inspiration to us all. Although he couldn’t attend because of travel, several OAHS team members went in his honour.
To our delight, Justin was the chosen recipient! Congratulations Justin!
On top of that, the award ceremony closed out the night with a surprise, OAHS also received the President’s Award thanks to a wonderful and heartfelt nomination by former Chamber of Commerce President Karen Bird. The President’s Award recognizes someone who makes an exceptional effort, going above and beyond the call of duty, in any area of business and community development.
Justin has this to say:
“A huge thanks and Chi’Miigwetch to the entire OAHS team, past and present, because that’s the only way this very tough work can be done so well…together! We have so many more people that are looking for help, and we have so much more work to do. I’m humbled to be but one person on the team. This award goes out to everyone!”
Another big thank you to Larry Cachagee and Peggy Rice for accepting both awards last night.
OAHS thanks everyone; staff, community partners, and the communities we serve for the recognition we received Thursday evening.
Miigwetch, Miigwetch, Miigwetch!
