As a collective, the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO), Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA), and the Ontario Federation of Indian Friendship Centres (OFIFC) invite you to participate in a province wide community engagement process regarding the design and development of the First Nation, Métis and Inuit Strategic Housing Framework: Respecting the Interests of Off-Reserve Peoples in Ontario.

Central to recommendations outlined in the Ontario Off-Reserve Aboriginal Housing Trust Report (OAHT), 2008, the MNO, ONWA, and OFIFC recognize a First Nation, Métis and Inuit Strategic Housing Framework remains an essential priority in ensuring sustainable housing is created in the interest of the urban and rural First Nation, Métis, and Inuit community. The First Nation, Métis and Inuit Strategic Housing Framework: Respecting the Interests of Off-Reserve Peoples in Ontario engagement process aims to place emphasis on the development of a comprehensive and coordinated approach towards an effective urban and rural First Nation, Métis, and Inuit housing strategy in collaboration with First Nation, Métis and Inuit community members across Ontario.

Your participation is critical in ensuring Aboriginal community involvement in the future design, allocation, and delivery of affordable housing for all First Nation, Métis, and Inuit people living in urban and rural communities.  Thus, these engagement sessions are open to all Aboriginal people in Ontario – First Nations, Métis, and Inuit, Status and Non-Status.  As these sessions are approaching quickly it is imperative that we have participants identified in your community and ask that you share the attached poster with your community members/clients.

The engagement process includes one-day sessions hosted in 12 communities across the province. During August and September, one-day sessions were hosted in 8 communities, including Thunder Bay, Fort Frances, Barrie, London, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Timmins and Ottawa. This next phase in the engagement process offers an additional 4 one-day sessions:
