February 23, 2018 (Hamilton, Ontario) – Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS) will expand its provision of rental services through the transfer of 263 housing units to OAHS on April 3, 2018. These units will be transferred to OAHS from Urban Native Homes Incorporated (UNHI), an Indigenous non- profit housing provider in Hamilton. This transfer to OAHS was unanimously supported by the UNHI Board of Directors and the City of Hamilton. The proposed transfer received positive feedback from existing tenants during tenant engagement sessions held in December 2017.
“This transfer has been determined as the best long-term option to strengthen the provision of safe, affordable, and culturally-appropriate housing services for Indigenous tenants,” said Sylvia Maracle, Chair of OAHS. “We look forward to working with tenants in these units on a smooth transition of services.”
