On January 29, 2019, the Honourable Patti LaBoucane-Benson made her Speech from the Throne to the Senate of Canada and made many references to her Mètis/Indigenous heritage and history along with how colonialism has affected Indigenous people to this day.  She finished with referencing how Canada is finally debating Bill C-262, an Act to ensure that the laws of Canada are in harmony with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
