The goal of the FIMUR program is to help address housing needs for Aboriginal people in Ontario living off-reserve, designed and delivered based on community engagement processes.
$51.1 million has been allocated to long-term rental in Ontario. For the purposes of this program, rental housing is comprised of:
• Geared-to-Income (using income rent calculations - IRC)
• Affordable Rental Housing;
• Supportive Housing; and
• Transitional Housing.
Project delivery under FIMUR includes the options to construct new housing stock, acquire existing residential or non-residential buildings for repair/conversion to re-use as affordable housing, or to purchase new housing.
The maximum capital contribution under the FIMUR program is $170,000 per unit. Allocation under the FIMUR program is flexible and will be determined by evaluating each project on its own merit (guided by program allocated funding per unit) to allow for consideration of actual cost, contingent on several key variables including (but not limited to):
• Cost effective program delivery approach;
• Community/geographical area;
• Location;
• Size of the unit(s);
• Cost of construction;
• Cost of land; and
• Special needs that impact the design of the unit (i.e. accessibility requirements, accommodating large and extended families).
